Built-in Window Shades = Better Environmental Control And A More Secure, Private Automobile

Uncategorized Add comments

The Problem
Super-heated passenger cabins during hot months; very poor heat retention during the cold. “Window shopping” ops for would be thieves.

The Opportunity
Develop a window shade system that reduces the amount of heat gain/loss. Also increases privacy and protection from potentially damaging sun rays.

The Insight
Cars already have the technology in place. We call them windows.

The Execution
Incorporate in-door screens that block sunlight out, or keep warmth in. Could usefully incorporate a screen into the front windshield as well.

The Selling Point
Increased comfort most obviously, then enhanced security/privacy.

The Incidental Benefits
In emergency situations involving extreme conditions this “technology” could buy precious time for a rescue. Less strain on the heating and air conditioning systems would equate with greater fuel efficiency and longer periods between service. In the not-too-distant future these screens could actually be charging a fuel cell through use of solar-panel fabric.

For someone cold natured, as I am, this idea sounds great! I do think there may be a few safety concerns however. Consider driving down the road and unintentionally putting the blinds up-I guess an “in-drive” lock would prevent this from happening. If ever there was a malfunction, the result could be devastating. This idea is pretty unique, I haven’t heard it in any concept forum before.

Howzabout the lens that people have in their glasses that adjust to the sunlight when they step outside and suddenly they’re wearing shades. I wonder if this kind of glass would act to serve the same purpose?

I’ve also heard about double-paned glass that is starting to be used in high-end homes that has some sort of gas in the middle that can turn the window opaque when electrified. This is intriguing as well, but there are surely legal concerns along the lines of tinting limits, as well as the cost of replacement being perhaps prohibitively high. It would be pretty rad if your all your car windows just turned black when you armed the alarm though!

This website is good and I’m glad I found it. Do you update every day? Also did you buy the template or was it free?

I used a free design and then modified it to suit my purposes by altering the code myself. Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately I rarely find the time to get over here anymore. Typical reasons of work and family. I hope to get back to it someday though. If you have had a Great Idea yourself, why not try to create a post for me to put up? You can write it up and email it to me so I can tweak it some and provide feedback. Writing about an idea forces you to really clarify your thoughts on it, which I find to be an enjoyable exercise.
